NR TAFE – Reconciliation Action Plan
I designed this 2026–2028 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan for North Regional TAFE while working at WA design agency Impact Digi. I’ve worked extensively with NR TAFE in my time with Impact Digi, designing a range of publications and marketing materials for its remote campuses across the Kimberley and Pilbara.
NR TAFE was open to using a different format for the RAP, and when I saw Mervyn Street’s two beautiful artworks, I immediately saw how well their proportions would lend themselves to a square format. The orange artwork worked perfectly as a wrap-around cover, with the second artwork also working beautifully as a double-page spread inside the document. I pitched the square-format concept to NR TAFE and they loved the idea, so we went ahead with ir, rather than the more typical A4 portrait format.
Mervyn Street is a Gooniyandi artist from Fitzroy Crossing, and the two artworks explore the themes of stolen wages and discrimination in the Kimberley, something Mervyn and his family experienced firsthand. His work became the visual focus of the RAP, with additional artworks by Indigenous artists commissioned by NR TAFE used throughout the document. The result is a publication that puts the artwork and the stories behind it front and centre, while creating a strong visual identity for the RAP.
It holds extra significance for me, as I used to live in Fitzroy Crossing, and my father has known Mervyn for many years.
